Farmyard Redevelopment, Huntingdonshire

GHA secured planning permission for a development of 7 dwellings in a former agricultural yard in Ellington, Huntingdonshire.

The Parish Council supported the application on the grounds that:

- it is sustainable use of a previous brownfield site

- improves upon the design of the previous application

- provides quality family homes.

The houses have been designed to be mostly contemporary in appearance, while being sympathetic to the village setting and the historical use of the site. The layout and design takes reference from a traditional farmyard and comprises a group of buildings surrounding and sheltering a central courtyard space. The proposal aims to create a ‘sense of place’ striking a balance with more traditional buildings on the front that respect the setting of nearby listed buildings and the character and appearance of the conservation area, bringing forward more modern contemporary dwellings to the rear that reflect the more modern nature of the current buildings on the site, as opposed to a range of pastiche traditional farm buildings.
